Texas A&M Children's Center - Where Diversity is Embraced

Our Wish List

Welcome to our wish list!  Here we show you some of the items that we are dreaming about for our Center.  If you, or your group, is considering a gift to the Children's Center, we have needs in several areas and price ranges.  The Children's Center, as a part of Texas A&M University, is a non-profit organization, and all gifts can be tax-deductible.  For more information about any of these wishes, please call the Center at (979) 458-5437.

Entry Cover to Canopy:  We have a wonderful covered patio outside that the children often use for gross motor play, large Center gatherings and other activities.  We often try to use the patio during rainy weather, but we must take the children through the rain to get to the covered area because the entry onto the patio isn't covered.  The cost to cover the entry is $6,000.

Volunteers:  Staffing is one of the biggest challenges that the Center is currently facing.  We are constantly seeking volunteers to work in the classroom, at the front desk, in the kitchen or help with laundry, etc.  We have lots of tasks that volunteers can accomplish with minimal assistance.  As with any staff member, safety is our first priority.  Volunteers are never left alone with children and are always supervised.  Volunteers can work as a substitute.  Again, volunteers will understand that they will NEVER be left in charge of a classroom or a child.  If you are interested in volunteering or know of someone who would be perfect, please let us know.

Funds for Tuition Assistance:  We are always looking for donations of any amount for our tuition assistance fund. Texas A&M has given us a mandate to be self-supporting. We receive some support from the university, and we are benefiting from several state and federal grants and programs, but the majority of our funding comes from families' tuition payments.  We are proud of our high-quality program and low student-teacher ratios, and we don't want to compromise that quality.  On the other hand, some Texas A&M families are not able to afford the cost of child care, and we don't want to turn away qualified applicants.  We address this problem by offering tuition reduction assistance for qualified low-income families, up to the limit of our funds.  Donations to this fund would have an immediate impact in the lives of Texas A&M families and children.

Books:  The Children's Center is a place that promotes literacy in all of it's forms for all ages.  We are always in need of books to expand our library.  Big books for group storytime, board books for infant and toddler classes, and books with story tapes are always favorites at the Center.  Costs of these items range from $5 to $25.

Classroom Computers:  If you haven't been in a preschool classroom in the last few years, you might be surprised to find personal computers and children's software in use in many of them.  There is a great variety of software available for young children, from programs which enhance early reading skills, to programs which teach number concepts, to creative and musical programs.  We have 12 personal computers in use in our classrooms, but we would like to continually upgrade our equipment, so that we may use the latest software.  We also are hoping to purchase additional software packages.  Costs in this area start with $25 for a software package, and go up to $1000 for a complete new PC system.
