At the Texas A&M Children 's Center, we are looking for eager, dependable, mature, and qualified people for the following positions:  Lead Teacher, Teacher, Teacher Aide, and Student Worker.  Whether you are looking for a full-time position, or just an occasional job as a substitute, we welcome your application.

LEAD TEACHER

The full-time Lead Teacher position is a salaried job, with benefits.  For more information about the benefits, see our Hiring Information page.  One Lead Teacher is in charge of each toddler and preschool classroom.  

Required Qualifications: There are 3 categories of qualified applicants. 1) The applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development or closely related field and a minimum of 2 years experience , paid or voluntary, working in an early childhood (birth - age 5) group setting. 2) Or the applicant must have an Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field with at least 4 years experience, paid or voluntary, working in an early childhood (birth - age 5) group setting. 3) Or the applicant must have a national Child Development Associate (CDA) an at least 6 years experience, paid or voluntary, working in an early childhood (birth - age 5) group setting. Upon hire, staff member is required to have the following: 1) Documentation of negative TB test result dated less than one year prior of start date. 2) Current Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification . 3)Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccine or date of appointment for start of the vaccine series.

Preferred Qualifications : Experience working with children and families of diverse populations preferred. Experience working children with special needs preferred. 

Responsibilities:   Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons based on curriculum guidelines. Use appropriate and positive management plan and train classroom assistants so that management is consistent. Maintain a safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment by changing play areas bimonthly, cleaning toys and equipment weekly, and checking for hazards daily. Assess, record, and determine individual needs of children in class; document data and prepare reports. Train, supervise, evaluate and work collaboratively with classroom teaching staff. Resolve conflicts or difficulties with children or parents. Ensure health and safety of children under care or supervision by establishing and facilitating compliance of classroom and center play rules. Establish and maintain good communication with families through monthly newsletters, calendars, and parent/teacher conferences.   Attend staff orientation, staff meetings and family/center functions.  Complete 20 clock hours of early childhood training each year. Perform related duties as required.

TEACHER

Teacher is an hourly wage position, with benefits.  For more information about the benefits, see our Hiring Information page.  Teachers assist the Lead Teacher in each classroom.

Required Qualifications:  High school graduation or equivalent. A minimum of 18 months experience, paid or voluntary, working in an early childhood (birth - age 5) group setting. (With a CDA, only 6 months' experience is required.) Physical interactions with children; ability to lift and carry children up to 20 pounds. Upon hire, staff member is required to have the following: 1) Documentation of negative TB test result dated less than one year prior of start date. 2) Current Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification . 3)Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccine or date of appointment for start of the vaccine series.

Preferred Qualifications: Child Development Associate (CDA) or Associate degree in early childhood education, child development or related field preferred. Experience working with children and families of diverse populations preferred. Experience working with infants and children with special needs preferred.

Responsibilities :   Interact, initiate, encourage, and supervise the children in daily activities. Assist the Lead Teacher in planning activities for the assigned group and offer suggestions and information about the children. Develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the room. Help the children control behavior using a positive, appropriate approach; always use consistent technique. Assist the Lead Teacher in record keeping by assisting in observation regarding children's health, behavior, and development. Maintain good communication with parents and makes each parent feel at ease at the Center.   Attend staff orientation, staff meetings and family/center functions; complete 20 clock hours of early childhood training each year; perform related duties as required.

TEACHER AIDE, STUDENT WORKER, and SUBSTITUTES 

Teacher Aide is an hourly wage position, and does not provide benefits.  This is part-time position, with less than 20 hours per week.  Teacher Aides assist in the classroom, administrative, and kitchen areas.  Teacher Aides may remain with one class, or may move from area to area as needed.  Student workers are also considered teacher aides.  If you have random hours of availability and you would like to substitute at the Center, please apply for a teacher aide or student worker position.

Physical interactions with children; ability to lift and carry children up to 20 pounds. Duties: Assist Lead Teacher and Teacher with supervision of children and preparation of materials.  Follow programming as planned by Lead Teacher.  Maintain a safe environment by checking for hazards and using proper sanitation techniques.  Help children control their behavior by using a consistent, positive approach.  Interact positively with children and their families.  Rotate toys with other classrooms biweekly.  Attend staff meetings and family/center functions. Complete 20 clock hours of early childhood training each year. Perform related duties as required.
